But some people stick to the OT and love to use this phrase: Ironically, this is something they themselves must do since the OT has rules like not eating pork, not shaving your beard, not wearing clothes made from more than one animal, stoning adulterers, and killing disobedient children. Therefore, they must pick and choose which parts of the OT they want to apply.

If anyone tells you the OT applies today, they are trying to get around the teachings of Christ. Sadly, you don't have to leave the New Testament to follow the Bible and ignore Jesus at the same time.

Have you ever wondered how it is that both conservatives and liberals can lay claim to the NT and Christianity? These are clearly two different belief systems and philosophies. The truth is that both conservatism and liberalism are fully represented in the NT. I know a lot of people, including clergymen and women, think of the Apostle Paul as the greatest of them all.

Why You Need to Stop Making God Your First Priority

But herein rests the conflict. Paul was an educated man from a wealthy family, Jews who were also citizens of Rome. He could already read and write so his writings predate those of the original apostles who were simple men. That means that 16 books of the NT are made up of writings from Paul and Luke, while only 11 books come from the original apostles plus one from John Mark. I don't know if Paul truly intended to corrupt doctrine or simply attempted to deliver the same message from his own point of view.

We all do that after all. Like in Colossians 3: So Paul's teachings are much more conservative in nature. Some of his teachings, however, are directly in opposition to those of the original apostles and Jesus, and hence, possibly more dangerous. I have many friends who cling to these passages like gold. The Apostle James teaches degrees the opposite. Like most issues in the United States today, a person's beliefs tend to mirror their political preference.

A conservative Christian is more likely to follow the teachings of Paul whereas a liberal Christian is more likely to follow the teachings of Jesus and the original apostles.

Looking at the other comments I see such a split down the middle some even citing outright heresy. Let me just say this: The Authors have researched their viewpoint extensively and come from the genuine perspective that in our own lives this is what we have dealt with and see others dealing with and so we searched the scriptures over the period of Years and this is what we have come up with. The attention to detail is scholastic. Their research is Biblical and well rounded. To those commentor's who strongly disagree with this book, from the looks of the comments I see, it seems like they have either only half read, misread, or misquoted the Authors.

You really must read the full book, come at it with the perspective that You may not have it all figured out, do your own homework on the topic, and not let the opinions of others make you shy away from reading this book. Again many of the objections to me seem to come from people who in essence, stopped the authors mid sentence to disagree with them before they could which they do articulate their full idea. Even if you end up disagreeing which I honestly do not understand how you could given the sheer amount of Biblical evidence there is , this book is still worth reading.

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. As someone who thought that God insisted on planning every little detail in my life and feeling false guilt whenever I felt I had missed it, this book was a relief. Don't get me wrong, I believe that God does give specific guidance when its needed, but being reminded of how much freedom we actually do have especially when we seek wisdom, is quite refreshing.

I do know some people that want God to make every decision for them and I don't knock them at all, I did at one point but I could never be fully sure if it was God or if it was my own feelings.
