It's a great historical account, especially driving, where you can visit the landmarks in Silverado Squatters. Listening to the trees. One person found this helpful. The story provides an interesting historical perspective. However, the small script-like font in some color otherthan bod black make it very difficult to read. Find it online or in the library instead. I guess I expected more of an adventure than what this book was all about.

RLS described this area so perfectly that I could picture the trees, the sea of fog and the rattlesnakes all of which are still here. This book sent me to Shramsburg winery for a visit as well as a drive up Lolly Toll road as it is now called.
Also having hiked up Mt. Helena many times and to the RLS state park I was brought back in time to the 's. This is a must read for all who have visited Napa Valley or plan to visit. One person found this helpful. Wonder where the Stevenson quote comes from on the Welcome to Napa Valley sign? Interesting read of the early days in Calistoga and Silverado Trail. I also enjoy a wine that gets its name from the book. A regional work set outside Calistoga California. Plot and characters were very weak.

Now I need to find out how to find the rest! Enlightening descriptions of the Napa valley and Calistoga in the 's. Only the first half of the book is included in this version. It ends abruptly in the middle of the third chapter. Selected this title since we had just spent some time in Calistoga, CA.
