I bought this version, to save a few dollars not knowing that this was an older edition. The website guy told me that I didn't need the newer version if I had the older one. At first, this book left me upset.
It was literally taking me days to get through the first few chapters, because I take extensive notes to help me remember.
All I wanted was concrete help with my children. Finally, after about 8 chapters, I started getting into the application part re: I love this book! I absolutely love that I have concrete things to teach my children that immediately improve our family! Learning the 4 basic skills alone can change lives.
I have read probably every Christian parenting book, from Titus 2 to doorposts to love and logic to say goodbye to whining. Say Goodbye is an excellent book - it is very similar to teaching self government but doesn't have concrete, spelled out skills to teach your children. TSG is the best and last parenting book you will ever need. It can seem overwhelming at first, but the key to remember is: I encourage you to watch the videos on her site if you need additional help with what exactly she means and how to implement what she teaches parents.

The downsides I've found in the book were that it was slow at first, sometimes confusing and repetitive. It was frustrating when she would mention a skill, and then say "we will learn about this later in ch.
And the author is LDS, so some of her religious things she believes were off. But, it wasn't too many times where religion comes up and you can read this if you aren't LDS. Other than these minor things, I can confidently say - this book has changed my life and my children. And it's only been a few days. Just knowing we have the power to choose is freeing. I love that my kids know what they need to do and I know what I need to do and we know what happens when we don't do those things.
While I enjoy reading it and find it Had one parenting issue with my pre-teen and this book was recommended. While I enjoy reading it and find it inspiring, there are some reasons I am only rating this a 3-star: It's a long book and not easy to skim.
I'm afraid my dear child will be grown before I'm able to finish it! Whenever I think of this lady's description of her perfect household, I just feel worse about my own. It seems like this lady's way for managing her family is kind of controlling.
Steps to Uniting your house when you Disagree and teaching the family how to Disagree Appropriately
She creates a vision and they are all expected to follow it. I like the idea of having a vision, but I don't want to push my vision on everyone else. I wish she had a method of the family creating a vision together. My family already complains that I'm too controlling, so they're not likely to fall in line behind my sole vision.
