His job as a telephone and wireman made for some interesting experiences trying to coordinate information among artillery and front line units. The author writes about why he joined the army, his early experiences in training, and making the choice to go to an overseas combat unit.
The rest of the book details his arrival in Normandy three days after the landing and his successful work in liberating France, Belgium, Holland and finally into Germany. One of the most interesting passages includes information about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He and his crew found themselves more than a thousand yards inside of enemy territory. Needless to say they managed to escape but not without incident.
