Preview — Oregon Bride by Rosanne Bittner. Here she was losing the battle to protect herself and her 5- month infant son from the brutish brother-in-law who was trying to claim her as his own. Then Joshua Rivers stood before her offering her a tenderness she had never felt. He was a man of the frontier, a man both tough and gentle, whose very touch gave her a thrill she had never known. As the wagon train pushed across a continent, Marybeth would see new horizons opening up before her and feel a passion-bred courage to face both danger and a new destiny.

But the joy she felt in Joshua's arms would be threatened by savage jealousy -- and a bullet Paperback , pages. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. To ask other readers questions about Oregon Bride , please sign up.

May 07, Rebecca rated it liked it Recommended to Rebecca by: I want to issue a warning to those who are interested in reading the first two books in this series also especially the second book, Texas Bride - I strongly advise you read the books in order. While you can follow the story without reading the earlier books, there is enough information given in this book about earlier books that some might feel it ruins the enjoyment if they try to read the books out of order -- again, especially if you try to read Texas Bride after reading Oregon Bride as there are quite a lot of spoilers given in this book about what happens in the second book.

Book one features the story of the parents of the hero of this book. Book two tells the story of the sister of the hero of this book, and because he is apparently involved a fair bit in the turmoils surrounding his sister and her man in book two, much of their troubles are touched upon in this book so that the reader is given a bit of background to understand the hero better.

I have only read this book out of the series and had no trouble keeping up, so if you do not plan to read the earlier books in this series, you should be fine. And, of course, if you don't mind spoilers, feel free to read in whatever order you desire. The situations that came up for the couple felt natural for the most part. There were a few things that were not well researched like saying a bite from a young rattlesnake is less dangerous than the bite of a mature snake , not well thought out like the Crow braves who apparently can't track at all so just assume where the guilt lay or just ridiculous like people desperate for meat, but willing to leave a freshly killed oxen without a thought to the food it could provide.

There were numerous situations like these in the books where I found myself wondering if the author really didn't understand the realities of the setting, or if she was just using excessive creative-license. As a whole, I gave it 3 stars since Goodreads has that as "liked it". I'd read it again if enough time passed, but it is not a book I'm likely to suggest to friends unless someone specifically asks for "wagon train" romances. Again, Rosanne Bittner has written a book that will stay on my keeper shelf and will continue to be re-read over and over again!

Marybeth faces a life that would break most women - but there's something stronger in her that refuses to break under the evil she lives with. Joshua also refuses to give in to that evil and let Marybeth suffer on her own. I loved watching how their relationship grows on the wagon train - not so quickly that you feel like you've missed out on something. Whenever I feel t Again, Rosanne Bittner has written a book that will stay on my keeper shelf and will continue to be re-read over and over again!

Aug 29, Maura rated it really liked it Shelves: This was a story about a woman and her baby on a wagon train bound for Oregon. The hardship and struggle endured by all is depicted really well. I could imagine what it must have been like to be apart of a group of people that faced constant danger. The hero was amazing. Josh fell in love with the widow and her baby from the start.

OK, I'm a big reader and I enjoy all kinds of literature.

I've probably read historical romance novels over the last 30 years and this one was really great! Can't count how many books I have purchased, only to throw them away pages in. No romance, just porn. Big difference, for me anyway, between hot and porn. This is the first book of its kind in a long time I really enjoyed from start to finish. I happened on it, and just now ordered the other 2 in this series. Now that I know this author, I can look forward to more books that I don't throw away shortly after starting!

I would like to say to Ms. Hauk Valbrand is the peacekeeper of Asgard, a timeless island paradise shrouded in fog and hidden far from the machinations of warring kings and violence of man. The people of Asgard have lived in this paradise for hundreds of years. But while the island provides everything the inhabitants require, the native women cannot bear children.

So every three decades or so, some of the men choose to venture out and capture brides to bring back to the island to woo their hearts and start another generation of islanders. Hauk, having been through this process twice at great personal cost, has no intention of ever taking a bride again, but as peacekeeper must travel with the men and protect the group.

In a quick turn of events, Hauk must step in and save Avril from another member of the group by claiming her for himself. Avril and Josette are taken back to Asgard and married to their captors. But Avril has a three year old daughter left orphaned at home and vows to escape the island and her captor at any cost. Avril is a headstrong and independent woman who is used to relying on no one but herself. She is resourceful and intelligent, organizes reconnaissance missions with the other captive brides in order to gather information that may prove useful to their escape.

Hauk is a lonely, but honorable man with a strict set of ethical codes. As she gazes out the window, she sees a stag. A brilliant beast, white fur and strong, large antlers. A grown woman with no memory, no family, no money. Kayden McGregor, a Scotsman who seems more a Highlander, owns an estate near where she is staying. Or stop himself from staring when Mya pretends not to notice.

Trapped, and yet somehow destined to be together. No moment in time can take that away from us. Read more Read less.
