German-English translation for "Wolke"
Each trilogy covers roughly to WW I, and some characters appear in both sets of books. The themes, however, vastly differ, so you don't feel like there is any repetition. The books cover interesting and critical events in the history of New Zealand, from the "Maori Wars" to the participation of New Zealand ANZAC at Gallipoli, but they also contain details about sheep ranching, coal mining, whale and seal hunting, as well as the principles of the development of flight.
These books have been labeled as "potboilers" by some reviewers, and I have to admit that the personal stories of the fictional characters are sometimes endlessly convoluted to the point of being soap operas. Nevertheless, the author's excellent writing and her ability to make you care about her characters keep you reading.
Wolken : German » English | PONS
I am now on book 3 of the second trilogy. The heated personal lives of the fictional characters sell the reader on the history, so the books are never "preachy. I read them with the computer at hand and research the details Sarah Lark writes about, as well as looking at images of the geographic locations. I have yet to find background to diagree with the author's treatment of importand details she does fudge slightly sometimes to help her story, but always explains this in her postscript. If you can read the fairly advanced German, I strongly recommend these books.
I read German at least as fluently as a young reader living in Germany I may have a larger vocabulary due to much reading of historical books , and I often find that if I do not quite get one of Sarah Lark's words she uses some archaic and technical terms , I often don't find it in my two German dictionaries either.
But this author is very good at limiting her difficult words to positions where it doesn't matter if you have to guess at the exact meaning, so it's not very intrusive to fail to recognize all of the German. Amazon does not label these books in such a way that it is easy to sequence the 6 volumes.
If you enter "Sarah Lark" and "New Zealand" in a search engine, you will find other sites that do this for you very straightforwardly. One person found this helpful.
The plot is very well constructed, the characters and complex and evolve with the story. It is very nice that the whole thing happens with New Zealand's colonisation. I totally recommend it. It was fun reading as family sagas are very enjoyable as well as the stories located in the different countries. See all 3 reviews. There are a few dark clouds on the horizon. Sad to say, the clouds that carry acidification do not stop at borders. Leider, leider machen die Wolken, die die Versauerung tragen, ja nicht an Grenzen halt.

Clouds of uncertainty linger, however, and there is much unfinished business. Wolken der Unsicherheit aber bleiben, und es gibt noch viel zu tun. The dark threatening cloud however has a silver lining. Am Rande der dichten dunklen Wolke gibt es jedoch Licht am Horizont.
Why, though, ban flights in Belgium when the cloud was in Norway? But the darkest clouds were on the cyber front. Yet there is perhaps a silver lining in the clouds over New Orleans. Ihr habt die dunklen Wolken am Horizont gesehen und nichts unternommen. A dark cloud was hanging low overhead, and large drops of rain were falling. There are many dark clouds overshadowing it, and a number of points that I would like to take up.
Turning seawater into clouds is a natural process.
