Also, "thank you for" is correct common but "thank you about" is incorrect.
When you apologize to another person, use for. When you're feeling sorry because of a situation, but not necessarily apologizing to a person for doing something bad, about is fine. But when you're apologizing to somebody you could say sorry about being confused as well, which would mean the same as sorry for being confused and sorry for my confusion.
If I understand correct, - I apologize for being late - I'm sorry for being late - I'm sorry about you loss. And if I said "I'm sorry for your loss", then it implies that I caused or contributed to the listener's loss? Actually the most common and better phrase is "sorry for your loss. Sorry about that one phrase breaking the rule I just gave you!
