This is a difficult book for me to review because I know who Heather Stout is; she is my mother's friend from church; my brother is friends with her youngest son Nick and is mentioned in the book; my friend's family owns the lake house next to hers; she used her membership at the country club in Salisbury for my bridal shower to be held there in April That being said, the editing of this book was not good!

Editorial Reviews

Periods in the middle of sentences, words not capitalized; I could go on. The book was very sad to me, even though I knew the ending.

“Not My Mother’s Journey”

It is very personal and very honest, although at times it seems she is boasting a bit. I applaud Heather for being so honest when this book will be read by her peers, friends, and sons. I'm unsure who this book would appeal to- survivors, those suffering or just diagnosed; it might be very insightful to those who have a loved one with cancer. A quick though sad read.

See a Problem?

I've heard Heather is working on a fiction work, and I'd be interested to read it, as the story telling was good. Jul 24, Mike Stalter rated it it was amazing. Not My Mother's Journey is an excellent book!!! It deals with breast cancer in a very real and informative way. I wish that I would have been able to read this book when my wife started her battle with breast cancer. Heather makes her story interesting, emotional, and inspiring all at the same time.

I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who knows or loves someone with cancer!!! Heather tells her story and she also tells what each member of her family went through dealing with her cance Not My Mother's Journey is an excellent book!!! Another interesting aspect of the book I noticed, is the constant sources of support the writer refers to, which will hopefully leave a lasting impression on readers the world over. My hope is that the next cancer patients found by former readers of Not My Mother's Journey, will think twice about a person's level of support, and rise to the occasion if it's not there.

Not all families, or cancers are created equally. The book is just the right size for busy lives, and is easy to stop and start. I love the entries. Not My Mother's Journey came at a good time in my life. Fight like a GIRL!!!! I have to admit that the title of this book intrigued me immediately. I also lost my mom to breast cancer and am in the midst of my own breast cancer battle so this book, for me, came at a perfect time. I read it three weeks after my double mastectomy.

  • Connecting people to trusted breast cancer information and a community of support..
  • Not My Mother's Journey.
  • Grass und Indien / Hinduismus: Theologie der Kultur (German Edition);

The story was personal, detailed, and REAL. The main thing I got from this book, that I really needed to understand also, is that regular life goes on during a breast cancer battle. Kids still misbehave, husbands can still be insensitive, girlfriends can be strong and supportive or they can disappear, and family members can be scared and sad or ignore the entire illness as if it's not happening. Regular life swirls around even while someone is sick in bed, having surgery, or being fed chemotherapy. There were many moments in this book that paralled my life that I was relieved to know my thoughts and feelings were "normal".

Heather was honest and clear about her fight and her journey and I really appreciated that.

As a cancer survivor myself, I enjoy hearing the stories of what others have gone through, and how it impacted our lives. Each person's view is unique, and Heather St Aubin Stout's was no different. In "Not My Mother's Journey", heather has to deal with her own cancer in the shadow of her mother having died from the same disease, and about the same age as she was diagnosed.

She has a ton of loving support, but still has to go through the adversities of dealing with teenagers who are acting out, trying to find their own ways to handle things. Through faith, courage, and a wonderful support system, she is able to regain her health, and reclaim her life. The author takes you on a very personal journey with the intent of helping you to understand that you are not resigned to the fate of those who have gone before you.
