The story is told from the point of view of girl who was abandoned at the age of five, so she talks like she is five. Who's name we don't even discover until the end, survived the apocalypse in a trailer with plastic sheeting, duct tape and a Haz-Mat suit.

The dialogue between the two is slow and painful, remember five years old. They first go into the city and narrowly escape capture by going into a cave where the girl ends up taking her mask off and becoming infected. After escaping that they venture to a military base to re supply when they almost get caught and end up killing one a survivor. By this point the two characters are referring to each other as mother and child. They eventually find a brother to join with him to take back control of the base. For the end the girl and the brother walk off into the sunset for a few days before the girl realizes she loves the mutant child and returns to her.

I loved the narrator's language the capitalization which, I'm sorry to say, I missed a bit in Part V and the word choices "Munies" seriously a standing ovation for the origin of that, "Supplies", "Bastard".
The ending was fabulous but more important Edit: The ending was fabulous but more importantly for me, the prequel was superb as well. When I was reading Part 0, I kept having those "aha! At first I wasn't sure I liked the writing style. The story is told from the perspective of a young person who has limited speech and thus the story reads as such. It took a little getting used to, but it all came together and was clear as the story unfolded.

I admit at first I found this to be a very dull, overly gloomy, story of a young woman who is surviving in a post apocalyptic world.

My main beef was that she spoke in a infantile language that was a bit off putting. The story moved along and had just enough to keep me interested and reading along.
