A love and promise that expands across a childhood, without being in the same country. He was a very stoic man at first I wanted to kick him throughout the book when he would get close and loving to Katie and then change back to a stoic man. I'm glad they are sstarting to find their way in their love for each other and their marriage to each other Jun 20, Lisa Shepherd rated it it was amazing Shelves: Love this author and her books!
Loved learning more about Scottish history—very interesting. I didn't realize how little I knew about what happened there. Great story, but be warned, this is the first in a series, so if you get emotionally involved in books like I do, you might be a little irritated when it ends. And it helped that there's a tiny bit of the next book at the end of this one.
Jul 27, Charissa rated it it was amazing Shelves: This was soooo good. This is set in the Scottish Highlands around and about 15 years later. Katie saved Collin from being beaten as a young teen when he is captured by her father in a rival clan. Now danger seems to stalk her on the journey to her new home, and her husband seems less than pleased to be saddled with her as his wife. Katie is heart-broken, alone, and feels forsaken. This was an awesome book. Once I started, I had a hard time setting it aside to do normal, necessary things like eating and showering and living.
The ending left me hanging a teenie bit, but it did wrap up the character arc for both hero and heroine, so that was good. Jul 19, Melissa Nichols rated it it was ok. This book was so so so slow. I was starting to get into the book in the second part but things were moving so slow and then the book just ends.
There is no conclusion in this book. I hate it when books are like this! I am not going to be reading the next book because it was so hard to get through this one. I love Michele Paige Holmes books but it seriously frustrates me as a reader when I can't read a book and have a start and end in one book.
I am not going to keep reading books just so I can f This book was so so so slow. I am not going to keep reading books just so I can find out what happened to the characters in the first book. With how slow this was and the fact that there was no conclusion I would not recommend this book to a friend. Oct 18, Heather rated it it was amazing. This book pulls you in from the very beginning. But she soon find out things she new her whole life are as they seem.
It a great book. It is full of adventure that both fills you with the fear of the unknown and that of hope! It is very very clean read! Jul 08, Marisa rated it it was amazing. This is the first book of hers that I've read but will not be the last! I loved the character growth and how vivid the scenes and surroundings were written. That being said I'm super excited for the next one!!! And hope it's fast!! Jul 14, Linda rated it liked it. I did not realize when I started reading the book that it is not a complete story. The story is written in the 1st person.
There is a prologue Collin then it fast forwards 15 years later, thereafter it is told from Katie's perspective. I'm rather ambiguous over the book really.
It's rather puzzling at first but every few chapters or so, starts with a short flashbac I did not realize when I started reading the book that it is not a complete story. Probably why I felt the story was slow. Both characters are interesting. I read romance for the HEA, so to come to the end of the book to find nothing resolved was a let down.
I would have preferred a longer, complete story. Copy gifted for an honest review. Jul 14, Amy rated it it was amazing. I loved Yesterday's Promise! It has so many things I love in a book - history, strong characters, clean romance, and having a Scottish setting is another bonus. I can't wait until A Promise for Tomorrow releases to find out what happens next. I received this book from the author but was not required to write a review.
Feb 18, Christy rated it it was amazing. Just like my GR friend, I was not prepared for how much I would like this book! I bought the 2nd book immediately and am wishing the 3rd was already released! Oct 09, iamnotabookworm rated it it was amazing Shelves: I give the book 4.
I got this from ebooksforreview. I love historical fiction and this one falls under the same genre. This is the second book that talks about Scotland and the Scots that I have read one after the other. Yes, imagine kilts and tartans. Accents that are a bit hard to understand and highlanders. All that are in this story. This story will take us back to Scotland in Yes, that far back. A time when clans are in play and England is trying to takeover the S I give the book 4.
A time when clans are in play and England is trying to takeover the Scots. Katherine is about to meet her future-husband Laird Collin McDonald. She was promised to marry this Scottish lord whom she hasn't seen before. She can't seem to refuse because a settlement will be give to her family in return, which they badly needed at this time. I was imagining my reaction if I were in Katherine's place. Would I runaway or face my future bravely, even with dread?
I don't think any girl would fancy meeting her future-husband on the day of the wedding itself. I don't think it is romantic at all. It is very scary. Lucky for Katherine, she is not marrying a total stranger after all. In fact, she might just be marrying her sort-of childhood sweetheart.
I love little Katie! She is just full of spunk and so brutally honest. I really liked the first thing he said to young Collin--I will wipe my grandpa's face and now, you can apologize. You should be nice. A very smart thing to say for such a very young child. I didn't think words like that would come from such a young mouth. And the rest of the her words were cleverer still.
I would love to adopt little Katie for her being honest and direct. We all could take a lesson from her. Collin, on the other hand, is an epitome of a gentleman. He kept his promise, even if it meant putting his life in danger. He would protect Katherine with his life until she would claim what is rightfully hers. Her claim to her Scottish heritage is not going to be easy but Collin will make sure that the promise he made to Katie's grandpa will be done, for it would also mean the peace for all of the clans in the Scottish highlands.
I also love the about Katie's special ability. It added more appeal and magic to the already mysterious highlands and moor. A tartan stands for a clan, or like the colors of a Scottish clan. According to wikipedia, a plaid is a tartan cloth slung over the shoulder as a kilt accessory, or a plain ordinary blanket such as one would have on a bed.
Like in the story, a tartan is sort of an emblem for each Scottish clan. It is very important. I learned a lot of the Scottish culture from the story. The Scots are very brave and loyal people. And it isn't a wonder why until today they may seem like a separate race from the Brits. I will give you my heart at the rising of the moon and the settling of the stars.
To love and honor through all that may come. Aug 20, MJSH rated it it was amazing. What a fantastic book! I had never read anything by this author previously but I could not put the book down once I started it. The writing is fluid and easy to follow. It is written in first person narrative in Katie's voice during the present and first person narrative in Collin's voice during the flashback What a fantastic book!
It is written in first person narrative in Katie's voice during the present and first person narrative in Collin's voice during the flashbacks. Though I don't prefer first person narrative, it worked really well for this book and allowed the reader an intimate look and insight into Katie and Collin. There is quite a bit of humor in the book, in Katie and Colin's dialogue and also in Katie's musings and perspective, which surprised and delighted this reader.
The plot is full of suspense and twists and turns. Every couple of pages, my mind screamed, "what next?!?! As the suspenseful plot unfolds, there is that romance subplot between Katie and Collin. Oh, their romance is slow and innocent and so deliciously sweet. Collin is a stoic, loyal, trustworthy protector whose promise to protect Katie is his life.
Though we only get a few glimpses into his thoughts through the flashbacks, his attentiveness, actions, and spoken words to Katie totally make him a swoon-worthy hero. Katie is a wonderfully delightful nineteen-year-old girl who only comes to realize her heritage and purpose after becoming Collin's wife. Katie is an honest, compassionate, resourceful, loving child-becoming-woman who matures quickly through the book and becomes absolutely endearing.
And there is a component of faith and belief in God towards the end of the story, which may play a bigger role in the next book of the series. I cannot wait for the next book!
Yesterday's Promise (Billionaire Games Book 5) by Sandra Edwards
Judging from the first chapter snippet included at the end of this book, it looks like the second book will pick up right where Katie and Collin left off at the end of this one. Write it quickly, Ms. I was given a free review copy of the book from the author and publisher. I was not required to write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own. The good parts seemed rushed. In this book, the main characters are separated during the majority of the book. The author does a good job of weaving a grand story together only the reader knows from the very beginning the secrets that are revealed to the main character. I was a little disappointed. I don't care for books where the hero and heroine are apart most of the book.
Linda Lee Chaikin has a unique and interesting way of guiding a reader through several complex actions at the same time. I enjoyed her books and the most pleasant surprise was the way she portrayed romance without detailed sex scenes. She intertwines history with human interest plots. I loved the book. All 3 books were really exciting and hard to put down.
Loved this whole series. If you like historical fiction, you'll love this. It is Interesting, with a lot of twist and turns. I would recommend all three in this series.
