Jan 20, Julie rated it really liked it Shelves: There is a lot of action packed into this short little story. Gin is one amazing character. One of my favorite things about Gin is how she is not afraid of letting her softer, more vulnerable side be seen. She would never show that side to an enemy. But when it comes to those she truly trusts she puts it all out on the table. In Thread of Death, she is still recovering from her massive showdown with a certain someone who has made her life what it is now. But, of course, even a burial is a mess in Ashland and that is where all the action takes place.

I thought it was great how Gin came to terms with everything that has happened and came to see that her life is the way it is because it was supposed to be that way. I always like Gin. But Jennifer switched it up this time around. Each chapter is told by someone different. You get the perspective from three different players and I found that was really cool.

I especially liked the chapter as told by Phillip Kincaid. His chapter really sets up the next next book or book 7 if you will. Makes me truly happy that there are at least a few more books coming to this series. It just polished off the story arc that ended in that book, bringing a little more closure to us the reader and to Gin too.

Feb 11, Ferdy rated it liked it Shelves: Gin is still recovering from her fight with Mab with the help of her friends and family. There are rumours flying around that Gin is the Spider but that in no way stops Gin from attending Mab's funeral and getting the closure she needs.

All of Ashlands underground players are in attendance not to say their goodbyes to Mab but to size each other up, to see if there is any truth in the rumours that Gin is the Spider and most importantly fight for Mab's position as Ashlands number 1 crime boss. Jon Gin is still recovering from her fight with Mab with the help of her friends and family.

Jonah McAllister wants revenge, he uses Mab's funeral as the perfect opportunity to out Gin's assassin identity by hiring a hitman to take her out at the funeral. Gin has no choice but to defend herself at the funeral in front of all Ashlands criminal underworld. All of Gin's fights are so predictable.. It would be good if in Gin's fights would go down differently. Owen is great and I'm intrigued by his and Kincaid's past, I got the impression there's a woman involved and that she somehow got between them.. One person who I don't like is Bria.. Gin is far too hard on herself when it comes to Bria..

There was a mystery woman at the funeral who I think is connected to Mab or Gin in some way.. Jan 18, Stephanie G rated it really liked it Shelves: The who's who of Ashland's underworld is in attendance and rumors that Gin is the assassin known as the Spider are swirling around. When someone opens fire on the crowd, Gin races to stop him before she becomes Ashland's next causality. Thread of Death takes place after Spider's Revenge. In it, Gin comes to terms with 3. In it, Gin comes to terms with her battle against Mab finally being over and attends her funeral to get the closure she needs when out of no where, someone starts shooting.

I liked this because it added something extra that made this novella more substantial. It was great to see Gin, Owen, Finn and the rest of the gang again and it ends leaving you with a couple of questions. Definitely has me more excited for By A Thread's release in February. I think it should be read as part of the series and not as a stand alone novella. Jan 11, Stacy rated it really liked it Shelves: Gin is recovering from her huge showdown in which she finally killed Mab Monroe. She decides that she needs to go to Mab's funeral to say her final goodbye's.

As we all know nothing is ever simple in Gin's life so of course the funeral doesn't go as it should and she finds herself revealing more about herself to her enemies then she planned. Even though this is a novella it is still full of all the action and suspense that I have always loved in Jennifer's books. There are a few different POV switches. Jonah definitely needs to be taken care of in the very immediate future. I'm kinda shocked that he is still alive at this point.

We get a little insight into Philip and a past with Owen that we didn't know existed. I rather enjoyed this novella. I liked seeing the events that occurred after Mab's death. Really loved the multiple points of view as well. I wonder if this storyline will pick up in book 7 since in book 6, Gin and crew will be out of town. I don't know if I want to believe that Jonah Mcallister was behind those two attacks, though it would make sense if the plan really was to expose her to everyone.

This novella has me wanting to know more about Phillip Kincaid and Owen's past relationship with I rather enjoyed this novella. This novella has me wanting to know more about Phillip Kincaid and Owen's past relationship with him.

I wonder if that's going to come back to bite Owen in the ass and cause problems in Gin's relationship with him. I so want to know what went down between them. Plus, there's Kincaid's enemy and whoever the mystery chick at the funeral was. So much to learn. Mab may be dead, but Gin still has a lot of trouble ahead of her.

Can't wait for her to kick more ass and take names. I wonder how she'll handle running into Donovan Caine again Jan 12, Nayan Patel rated it liked it. I strongly believe that the Elemental Assassin series should have ended at 5 novels after the death of Mab Monroe. I still decided to check out this novella where Gin decided to pay her last "respects" to her archenemy purely due to my curiosity about how J Estep decides to infuse life in a series which is now missing one main character.

This novella did nothing to dispel my notion that the series should have ended with the last book. Nonetheless, I would be wrong in stating that reading it was n I strongly believe that the Elemental Assassin series should have ended at 5 novels after the death of Mab Monroe. Nonetheless, I would be wrong in stating that reading it was not a pleasure.

The trademark action sequences that are found in the Assassin series are also found here. Little predictable but still entertaining. Not sure whether I will follow up with the next book, but my curiosity is still not satiated so would probably try it out. UF or Elemental Assassin fans. A barely healed Gin attends Mab's funeral to say her peace. It won't be easy.

[PoE] Elemental Hit vs. Red Elder (Faceroll Alert!)

There's a power vacuum in Ashland. There's also an old bitter enemy remaining. Crime lords and townspeople eye Gin warily and speculate. Then all hell breaks lose. Mab may be dead but Gin still has to fight to survive. This novella teases us with tiny revelations. The hint of an enemy coming to town is disclosed. This may occur in Widow' Web as we learn Owen's backstory.

There' also the added treat of three characters A barely healed Gin attends Mab's funeral to say her peace. There' also the added treat of three characters' points of view. This was an entertaing, action-acked short story that proves Elemental Assassin series has more exciting stories to be written.

Feb 29, Lola rated it really liked it Shelves: This is a nice short story that takes place some time after book 5. It is about Mab's furneral. I enjoyed reading it and getting back into the elemental assasin world, but really it is just a short story. A small peek at what is to come. I can't wait to read the next book. Feb 24, Belinda rated it really liked it Shelves: Gin at her best. At Mab's funeral, Gin encounters an assassin of course! But who set up the hit? Feb 04, Bamafever rated it liked it. I really like this series and all of the repetition usually doesn't bother me as it does others but I must say in a short story like this I think it was to much.

Thread of Death (Elemental Assassin, book ) by Jennifer Estep

Hardly any previous-book-regurgitation at all! Jan 31, mrsj rated it really liked it. P I can't wait to read the next book. Hopefully no trouble in paradise for Owen and Gin. View all 5 comments.

Thread of Death

Feb 02, Llwells rated it liked it Shelves: Jun 29, Ricarda Scola rated it it was amazing. Dass eben jener 5. Dieses eBook umfasst etwa einen halben Tag in Gins Leben. Wechselnde Perspektiven sind ein ganz besonderes Schmankerl, das man so bei Estep leider selten erlebt. Jedenfalls lautet meine Empfehlung: There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Jennifer Estep is a New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author, prowling the streets of her imagination in search of her next fantasy idea.

She is the author of the following series: The city is also home to giants, dwarves, vampires, and elementals—Air, Fire, Ice, and Stone. But when the unthinkable happens, Evie finds herself fighting for her life—both inside and outside the gladiator arena. But with a new group of Reapers and mythological monsters on the rise, Rory is the only one who can save her academy. Quite another to confirm them. Time will show how that nugget of information changes the direction of the series.

I'm hoping that Owen's skeletons don't hinder or hurt Gin in anyway. I love Owen and I don't want to see him portrayed in a bad way. I am intrigued to know his secrets and his previous relationship with the shady underbelly of Ashland, but I don't want to see Gin hurt by it. I really, really, really enough really's? The editors at Pocket Books need to do a better job, or I will stop buying the Elemental Assassin books. This novella is part of the Elemental Assassin series and takes place right after Spiders Revenge. If you have never read this series and are planning to pick it up, I don't recommend you start here.

This was a fantabulous treat! I really enjoyed this novella. This tease has gotten me excited for the next book. I love how the author wrapped up the previous storyline and didn't beat it to death. It was almost perfect timing. The dangers that seem to be awaiting Gin in the future, to me, seem even more deadly than anything Mab could have dealt out.

Don't Miss These Previous Books in the Series!

I enjoyed this action packed Gin Bianco Elemental Assasin short. Other reviewers have mentioned that Estep is the queen of recapping, but this works to the advantage of those like me who haven't managed to keep up with the series, so even not being up to date I had no problem picking up on the players and getting a sense of what lead up to the short this was true of her recent short "Haints and Hobwebs" in the Mammoth Book of Ghost Romance too.

So I liked Thread of Death and enjoyed the quick catch-up with Gin enough that I am going to have to dust off the other four of Gin's books that are in need of rescue from the To Be Read pile. Love that this combined Gin, Jonah, and Phillip's point of views. It was nice to get into the heads of some of the other characters of the series, in this case, the villains or not so up and up guys. It will be super interesting to see where the series goes now that the underworld is in an uproar and Gin's identity isn't so secret now.
